Ottawa’s Cleaning the Capital Campaign happens each Spring and Fall, encouraging community participation in citywide cleanup efforts to keep Ottawa clean and green. The Friends of Stittsville Wetlands have registered for two cleanup projects in Stittsville to improve wetland health.

The first clean-up will start at the observation platform on the TransCanada Trail, overlooking the headwaters of Poole Creek, and we will work east towards Westridge Drive. We will focus on the ditch areas (north and south sides) directly adjacent to the trail. The TransCanada Trail clean-up will end at Westridge Drive.

The second clean-up will start at Stittsville Main Street and follow Poole Creek to Westridge Drive at Abbott Street West. The clean-up will focus on the trail and wooded areas adjacent to the creek.

A liability waiver for participants for review and acceptance is required to complete your registration.

National Wildlife Week

April 6 -12, 2025

In 1947, the Canadian Government declared the week of April 10 as National Wildlife Week to encourage Canadians to actively contribute to wildlife conservation and their habitats. This week was established to commemorate the birthday of the late Jack Miner on April 10. Miner was one of the pioneering conservationists who identified the migratory routes of North American bird species. He was also renowned for his efforts in saving the Canadian Goose from the brink of extinction.

During National Wildlife Week (April 6-12), we invite you to learn more about our Canadian wildlife. Join experts from the Canadian Wildlife Federation as they share information about some of Canada’s most intriguing migratory species and provide guidance on how you can support wildlife conservation and preserve our natural heritage through actions at home and within your community.

Mark your calendar and join us in working together to protect wildlife and their habitats.
