iNaturalist - Let’s Get Started
iNaturalist is an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn about nature. iNaturalist helps you identify the plants and animals around you while generating data for science and conservation.
The Friends of Stittsville Wetlands have created an iNaturalist umbrella project called the Goulbourn Wetlands and Major Tributaries. This project includes three subsets – the Goulbourn Wetland, which represents the headwaters for two tributaries, Poole Creek and Flowing Creek. Each of the three subsets reflects a different part of this unique ecosystem and is designed to engage citizens in collecting information from across the area through citizen science. The Friends of Stittsville Wetlands are the administrators for these projects.
Get connected with a community of millions of scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature and help our turtles!
Download the iNaturalist app to your smartphone and set up an account. You can use iNaturalist on your computer or smartphone.
Join the Goulbourn Wetland and Major Tributaries Project and trust the Project with Hidden Coordinates.
Use your smartphone app to record all turtle sightings, phragmites and any other plant and wildlife species.
Your phone’s GPS location function must be on. Take a photo and write text to describe what you’re seeing. If you are unsure of what you are looking at, describe it as best as you can.
All coordinates will be observable to our Project Administrator, provided you trusted the project with your observations.
Turtle Specific Information
If a turtle is laying eggs, then obscure the location before uploading.
iNaturalist obscures the coordinates for all Blanding’s turtles; however, all coordinates will be observable to our Project Administrator, provided you trusted the project with your observations.
